Water is becoming an increasingly critical factor for the future of our cities and regions. Longer periods of
drought, rising temperatures, and more frequent heavy rainfall events present us with the challenge of managing both water scarcity and water surplus. How can we retain water within cities and regions, make it usable, and at the
same time reduce risks through flooding and infrastructure capacity overload? These questions cannot be answered in a stand-alone manner. Climate-resilient and water-sensitive development must be coordinated with the requirements
of sustainable urban development from the very beginning—from mobility and transportation to housing and open-space planning, all the way to public gathering places and social infrastructure.
We support municipalities and regions on this journey with integrated strategies for water-sensitive urban development, climate-resilient neighborhoods, and sustainable rainwater management.
Sustainable cities and regions are not created on the drawing board of individual departments. We develop successful approaches by bringing people together, identifying synergies, and putting ideas into practice. In this process, openness, creativity, and an eye for the bigger picture are just as important as technical expertise. Only those who keep the whole system in view can create solutions that have a long-term impact and are supported by many.

Climate Assessment for the Pallaswiesen and Morneweg neighborhoods in Darmstadt
A report aimed at identifying potential courses of action for the climate-friendly development of the neighborhood. The focus is on climate protection and climate adaptation, particularly on measures to mitigate heat stress and on strengthening and promoting urban green spaces.
LEA climate districts in five municipalities in the Darmstadt administrative district
The effects of climate change, such as heat waves and heavy rainfall, are already impacting key areas of municipal public services and will need to be taken into account in neighborhood renewal and urban land-use planning in the future as well.
LAWA strategy for water-sensitive urban development
As part of an ongoing, interdisciplinary process, the federal-state working group on water developed an interagency strategy for water-sensitive urban development.

An online TOOLBOX has been developed to help cities and regions better adapt their water management systems to the effects of climate change.
The focus is on managing extreme events. As part of the BLUE+GREEN+CITY project, the toolbox is being expanded to include measures for water-sensitive, integrated urban design.
