An overall inter-municipal strategy for adaptation to climate change in the Darmstadt-Dieburg district was already developed by INFRASTRUKTUR & UMWELT Professor Böhm und Partner in 2011-2013. Since then, the consequences of climate change have become increasingly more visible and noticeable, and measures for adaptation are inevitable.
In an online survey of the 23 municipalities and the district administration, IU was commissioned by the district to determine the extent to which the municipalities were affected, the need for action, the status of implementation of measures, the obstacles to implementation and the need for support from the district. The results were presented to the municipal representatives at the invitation of the district during the expert workshop on 11 July 2023 in the Darmstadt-Kranichstein district administration office. In two working group sessions, the participants dealt in detail with the climate change impacts “heat/lightning/hail” and “heavy rain/water shortage”. Essential measures as well as obstacles and how to overcome them were discussed and requirements/wishes for cross-municipal cooperation with support and coordination by the district were formulated.
